10.20.03 MINUTES
I. OLD BUSINESS/BOOK KEEPING
The deadline for turning in member fees was October 17, 2003. According
to Luke Andersen, there are approximately 34-35 LPH members. Wendy has
the list of all the paid members and will be posting this on the LPH website.
II. MENTORING PROJECT
So far, only one mentee has contacted an LPH member for mentoring. Due
to the low interest in this project, there will be no formal mentoring
for this semester. However, there were a few suggestions to remedy the
lack of a mentoring project. One suggestion was to post a FAQ (Frequently
Asked Questions) section on the Communication department website as well
as the Communication Major booklet. Ray said he would re-design this booklet
so that it could be posted on the web.
III. SERVICE PROJECTS
Ray has developed a Service Project Form for any students who wish to
complete 10 hours of service for their red and white cord. Again, these
10 hours must be completed within one year of membership (one year = August
to September). Ray will be sending the form out to LPH members via email
soon. Also, this form will be posted on the LPH website eventually. As
far as a specific service project, you are free to do whatever you want.
There are some openings in working with the Senior Seminar renovation
project at WoMen's and Children's Horizons on November 22 and 23. Anyone
who is interested in participating in this project needs to go through
a background check. The form for this background check can be obtained
by contacting Megan Gaca, or Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz.
IV. FIELD TRIP
The date for the upcoming field trip has been changed due to a conflict
with a Senior Seminar event. The tentative dates will be either November
8 or 9 (Saturday or Sunday). Since radio and news stations in Chicago
do not give tours, we will most likely be going to a museum. Members are
encouraged to research a museum (group rates, tour dates/hours, location,
etc.) and send the results of their research to either Ray (ray@kenoshanews.com),
or Kathryn (keeks00@hotmail.com). We will be taking the Metra, so please
take into account the accessibility of the museum from the Union Station.
V. FUNDRAISER
Since there is not enough time to plan a Bowl-a-Thon, LPH plans on doing
a Bake Sale to offset the cost of the red and white cords as well as the
field trip. Kathryn and Megan will be arranging this fundraiser, so stay
tuned for details.
VI. SOCIAL EVENT
Luke says he is in contact with Jeff Raddatz to organize an Alumni Event
at the Radisson in Pleasant Prairie. This event will most likely take
place on a Friday evening in early December. Stay tuned for further details.
VII. WORKSHOPS
An eFolio Workshop will be given by Ray and Luke on December 15, 2003
at 12:00p.m. in CART 133. Kathryn has not heard back from Theresa Castor
about the possibility of doing an Internship Workshop. There will be more
details to follow regarding both of these workshops.
VIII. NEXT MEETING
PLEASE NOTE: Our next meeting will be MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2003 AT NOON.
We have much to discuss and finalize regarding projects and the field
trip, so please join us!
Respectfully Submitted,
Kathryn Seamans, Secretary
