Meeting Minutes

Elections:
At the last spring meeting, the following officers were elected:

President: Jeannine Alioto (fall 2007 only)
Vice President: David Kurneta (fall 2007 only)
Secretary: Jasmine Harris

An election was held for treasurer. Terra Coffey was elected.

PCAA Kickoff
In spring, COMM 495 students started the Parkside Communication Alumni Association. Our major fall event will be the first formal meeting of the group. Officers were elected in spring, out of the about-to-graduate seniors. Jimmy Bishop worked on PCAA as a summer project, and got the web site set up (use PCAA as a keyword on the UWP home page). Because the group is not yet organized, LPH (possibly with PAC) will organize the first meeting. Tentative dates: November 9, 2007 (1st choice), November 2 (2nd choice), or November 10 (3rd choice). We will start at 6:00pm and Jeannine's father can probably cater light nibbles to eat and enjoy. David Kurneta, as LPH VP, will coordinate the planning; Jeannine will help. David has already contacted a friend who has an art gallery which would make a good off-campus location. Suggestions: Make sure we have a computer station available, so alumni can fill out the data sheet on the website. There is a sound system is available for music.

We discussed possible other events (such as workshops) but the decision was to do one major thing and make it work.

Membership fees and cords (gold/red and white)
New members pay a fee of $35 - most of this goes to the national office. Returning members must pay a smaller fee of $20 - this stays on campus. Students graduating pay $8 for a gold cord to wear at graduation. All fees are due by Oct 12 to either Wendy or Terra; make checks out to UWP.

To earn a volunteer cord (rec and white) to wear at graduation requires 10 hours of service activities per year someone is a member of LPH (see the web site for details and the form to fill out.) This means 10 hours are needed by the end of the semester for those graduating in December! (Service cords are free because LPH pays for them if the hours are completed.)
