Professor Castor is taking her Asian American class to Chinatown in Chicago so her students will have a different cultural experience. The bus that she has reserved holds 47 people and she has a class of 24 people. Professor Castor has opened this opportunity to the following organizations: PAC, LPH, and PAO. If you are thinking of going you need to see either Professor Castor or Professor Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz to fill out liability papers and to pay $2 (this is for the tip for the tour guide). You will need to bring extra money for lunch (expected to be about $10 for a special dim sum meal) and any shopping (voluntary of course). Information packets were distributed; others will be on Professor Wendy’s door (CA 245). The deadline to reserve a spot for this trip is October 9, 2006. After that date any empty spots will be made available to ALL, a group affiliated with the Center for Community Partnerships.
LPH has 12 new members and we have 11 returning members this fall. See the membership page for names.
Additional fieldtrip ideas
We are trying to plan a faculty and student potluck dinner. We are looking to do this event on November 11, 2006. As of right now we are looking for a restaurant or somewhere to have this event. Jamie is going to find about Casa Capri, Villa da Caro, and the Den cost to rent out a portion to hold the potluck. Professor Wendy is going to send out an email to all faculties seeing who can attend. Another idea that came up was going to Chicago or Milwaukee to hang out with members and with PAC. Lastly we talked about going to an Admirals Game in the spring (hockey game). Cassia is in charge of finding out how much it costs for the game.
October 15, 2006 is the date for the Special Olympics program. It will be bowling with these individuals at a nearby bowling ally. Jamie will get details. Lorrie is in charge of contacting the YMCA to find out about opportunities about volunteering. LaToya is in charge of receiving more details for Make a Difference Day (October 28, 2006). Everyone is responsible for bringing information to the next meeting (or sending it to Professor Wendy for posting to the website if the event occurs earlier).
The Communication department has vacated a bulletin board for us to use with PAC (next to the department office, CA 265). We need ideas of what should go on this board. LaToya suggested that we should put pictures of the officers and the members of the organization, and others liked the idea. Bring wallet size photos to the next meeting!
