Field trip to Miller brewing company:
Tentative Date Friday Nov. 1st at 3:30.
We can meet with someone in human resources at 2:30
We would need to meet at school at 1:30 to leave together.
*Rebecca Williamson will be sending out an email about this trip

Service projects:
Megan Gaca looked into information on children who are burn victims and found that they need
help with getting donations or we could stuff envelops for them.
*see below for additional comments on a service project

Workshops:
Jennifer Ranker will run an e-portfolio workshop but a date is still not been set.
Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz plans to conduct the resume workshop whenever Jennifer is not doing her
workshop.

New Business:

LPH web page:
We decided to put all the members' names on the webpage. If anyone strongly objects please
e-mail Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz immediately.
We also decided that we will post the minutes on the web page.

New possible service projects:
We discussed a series of potential service projects before settling on one we thought most
appropriate.

1) Mentally disabled adults
Megan Gaca also found information about helping to get Christmas gifts for mentally disabled
adults. We could chip in and buy a gift and even give it out at their Christmas party.
*Found that many people thought this ran too close to the end of the semester.

2) Thanksgiving dinner
Help a family who can not afford a Thanksgiving dinner by providing them with one.

3) Help senior seminar with their project
Help by participating in the basketball tournament or by buying raffle tickets. All money raised will
go to help prevent child abuse in Wisconsin. Will be held at Park High school in Racine on Nov.
16th from 12:30 to 8:00 p.m.

4) Clothing drive at Parkside
Check to see if anyone is planning a clothing drive at Parkside and if so we could join them. If not
we could plan our own drive.

**Service project that we decided on:
Helping to mentor a student who is a new major. We will match up each student of LPH with
several new majors or students (on the assumption that not all of them will want to participate) with
fewer than 60 credits and go over the new major handbook and answer any questions they may
have. From advising to what teachers or classes they should take or any other questions they
may have.
*Please let Wendy know if you have a problem with this project, otherwise we will assume it is what
we will do this year as our service project. Wendy will let the department faculty know, and
coordinate acquiring the names of the students who may need mentoring. In the future, students
will be notified when they apply to the major that someone will be calling them. For now, we will
have to call and explain the project at the same time

Next meeting:
Tuesday, October 22 at 5:00 held in the normal room (CA 233)
*We will have a workshop at this next meeting based on how to help mentor a new major. The
question to think about before the meeting is "what is it that you wish someone would have told
you?"

Future meetings
Next Oct 22nd at 5:00
then the rest of the schedule is
Tuesday Nov. 5th 3:30
Wednesday Nov. 20th 12:00
Tuesday Dec. 3rd 5:00

Meeting ended at 12:55p.m.
