Meeting Time

LPH will be meeting Wednesday, March 9. Each meeting will be every other Wednesday after that.

Treasures for Troops

We received the billing statement from Mailboxes Etc. The final total for shipping fees came to $377.25. Jessie Noblin collected $226.00 from the congregation of First United Methodist Church. The rest of the money will be raised through a fundraiser. Also, “Thank You” cards were purchased for the two churches  that helped support Treasures for Troops.

A proposal was made in regards to how we can come up with the rest of the shipping fee costs. PASA at Parkside has a $10,000 budget and are looking for organizations with projects to donate the funds to. We need to write a proposal letter to Donna, who is in charge. The letter must have a good reason as to why we deserve the money. Treasures for Troops still needs to raise about $150. Wendy will assist us in the proposal letter.  Kate and Stephanie will go to PASA with the letter Wednesday, February 23 at 12.

Fundraisers

We decided to do the Community Day fundraiser. Boston Store has a community day February 26 - we sell coupons for $5 to shoppers who then use the coupon for $5 toward merchandise at Boston Store on that day. 100% of the profits go to LPH. All coupon stubs need to be turned in by February 24. The stubs can be dropped off in CART 265.

We also decided to hold another bake sale. The date chosen is March 8 from 10am-2pm. Ka has reserved a table in Main Place. The bake sale will be themed St. Patrick’s Day. Make sure to bake everything green.  The bake sale will be donation only because then we do not pay taxes on what we raise.  Kate and Chris will work 10-12 and set up; Stephanie will work 12-1, and Jessie will work 1-2. Other volunteers are welcome to earn service hours.

Social Event

A possible social event for members is a Den Night. A tentative date is March 8 from 7-9PM. The event will be held in the Den. Food and drinks will be available. Ka will check whether the space is free then.

[Not discussed at the meeting, but a reminder from the last meeting: Another possible social event for members is to see Kenosha’s Idol. The show will be held at Reuther High School on March 20 at 7pm. Tickets are $10, and are available from Jessie.]

Workshops

Ka is still looking into holding a GRE workshop. The Career Center has been contacted to see if this event  overlaps with one of theirs. Ka has not yet received a response – Wendy recommended contacting JoAnne Goodyear, the Director.

LPH initiation/Student Celebration

The LPH initiation is part of the Communication Department's student celebration each spring. The date will be April 17, 2-4 pm. Stephanie Glass will be the intern working on this with Kate, in her role as Vice President. A possible theme is “Your World To Explore.” In addition to LPH, graduating seniors, CAR certificate students, internship students, and PAC will all be involved. PAC and the faculty will probably continue to give out student awards, although details have not yet been finalized.

Alumni Event

So far the Alumni Event is likely to be held at the Radisson Hotel in Pleasant Prairie. Jeff Raddatz, an alum who works there, is getting us prices for the room rental and some food. The tentative date is Friday, March 25. We reviewed names of potential alumni to invite. Rita Thomas will work with Chris Dollar on this. Wendy will ask the other faculty if they can offer extra credit to students who attend, perhaps in exchange for writing about what they learn.

Respectfully submitted,
Jessie Noblin, Secretary
