Why UW-Parkside?
“If you want the experience of doing undergrad research, Parkside provides those opportunities.”
--Patrick Liesch, Senior,
Biology
“I knew since I was a kid I’d go into Biology. We had an exotic animal farm across the road from our house and a wetland in the back. While I was still in high school my older brother arranged a tour of Parkside. I liked the location with the forest, prairie and river intertwined with the campus. I was also impressed by the lab facilities and especially the faculty. At Parkside your professors know you and your interests. They helped me obtain a summer internship in Biology and funding from the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium to do research on meteorite composition. (Samples from Patrick’s research have been submitted to NASA.) It would have been challenging for me to attend school without financial aid. There are five kids in our family and most of us are currently in college. Fortunately, I received three scholarships from Parkside and an outside grant. After graduation I plan to get my Masters in Entomology from UW-Madison and a Ph.D. in either Entomology or Botany. Ultimately I want to teach at a university and also do field research.”
