"When I started Parkside I wasn't sure what to major in. I thought that was a problem until I took my first English class and loved it. It was small but diverse in terms of age and ethnicity. It made me more open to opinions and perspectives I'd never have considered. I took more English classes and my professors were so passionate about their subject matter that it was contagious, and it really motivated me. By the end of my first year, I had declared English as my major. After graduation I'll be doing a teaching assistantship at UW-Milwaukee while I work on my Masters. I'd like to teach college level English eventually. My advice to new students is you dont have to be 100% sure when you choose your major. Find a subject you like and make a commitment. If you start out enjoying it, you may end up loving it."
