Stand Out Tour Guides at UW-Parkside

Jesus Valladolid

High School: Lake Geneva Badger High School
Major: Spanish
Minor: English and Communication

Perception: The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is a smaller, regional university.

While that perception may be true, Jesus Valladolid will tell you it is much more. "What I enjoy the most at UW-Parkside," he says, "is getting to know my professors and making friends from all over the world--getting to know other people's cultures."

When Jesus was deciding which school to attend, the perception of a smaller, regional campus was part of the attraction. Jesus wanted a university where he could have a strong relationship with his professors.

"I found that at UW-Parkside," he says.

He also found the most diverse campus in the University of Wisconsin System. Students of color make up 25 percent of the student population--the highest percentage of any UW campus. That diverse learning environment helps prepare students for today's increasingly global society.

As a peer advisor and lead mentor in the UW-Parkside Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, Jesus has the opportunity to talk with prospective students. His message: "I tell them that UW-Parkside is the place they want to be."
