How to Apply for Financial Aid

With one application, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will be considered for various types of federal and state aid. You must submit FAFSA each academic year, the application is available October 1. Some aid programs have limited funding and to ensure full consideration, we recommend that you apply by the priority date of March 15. To qualify for aid for any given semester, you must have a FAFSA on file prior to the completion of that semester.

step 1

Obtain your FSA ID.

What does the FSA ID do?

Acts as login/signature for:

  • FAFSA
  • Student loan applications
  • Reviewing student loan debt information

Who is required to have an FSA ID?

  • Student
  • One parent
step 2

Gather documentation needed for the FAFSA.

What do you need?

  • Social Security numbers*
  • Drivers License Number if applicable
  • Alien Registration Information if you are not a US Citizen
  • Federal Tax Returns and W-2’s for two years prior*
Example: If you plan to start Fall 2022, you would need tax information for 2020
  • Bank Statements as of the date the FAFSA is filed*
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)*
  • FSA ID

(*) Denotes items that are required for both the student AND parent if the student is dependent

step 3

Complete the FAFSA.

Applications open annually on October 1. Parkside priority deadline is March 15, but the FAFSA can and should be submitted even if you miss the priority date.

Example: If you plan to start Fall 2022, the FAFSA will become available October 1, 2021. Priority deadline in this case would be March 15, 2021.

File as early as possible for maximum consideration!

What happens next?

You should receive an emailed confirmation of FAFSA completion, called a Student Aid Report (SAR), within three to five days of submission. We recommend reviewing the SAR for accuracy.

We will receive your FAFSA information within approximately the same timeframe. If you are admitted to Parkside, you should receive something from our office within one to two weeks.

How will you receive it?

New students receive it to their home mailing address and RangerMail. Returning/continuing students receive it to their RangerMail.

What will that be?

You will receive one of the following:
