10:00 AM 4:00 PM Art Exhibition: Life on Lake Michigan: Photos from the Early 1900s
E.H. Mathis Gallery
“Life on Lake Michigan: Photographs from the Early 1900s” features large format pictures printed from digital scans of antique plate glass negatives held in the UW-Parkside Archives. Images include the schooner “Blackhawk” under full sail in Kenosha Harbor circa 1900; the "Grisham" at harbor in Milwaukee Sept. 5, 1897; the Canadian yacht “Invader” racing against the “Vencedor “ (the “Vencedor “ is featured in another photo shown in this exhibition) Aug. 12, 1901; and others. Dry plate glass negatives, like the one on display, date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. The digital photographs shown in this exhibition were printed on campus during spring semester.
10:00 AM 4:00 PM Art Exhibition: 23rd Parkside National Small Print Exhibition
Fine Arts Gallery
After a three-year break, the Parkside National Small Print Exhibition is back! More than 100 prints from locally and nationally known artists are shown with copies of many available for purchase. This year’s exhibition gives print enthusiasts a different view—held as it is in the nearly 2,000-square-foot Fine Arts Gallery as opposed to the former, smaller UW-Parkside Arts Gallery—and more time to enjoy the prints with the exhibition running through July. Local artists include Dennis Bayuzick and Lisa Bigalke of Kenosha and Richard Berns of Racine. All but one of the pieces in this year’s exhibition are available for purchase. The university keeps 20% of the sale price for scholarships and programing for students.
2:00 PM 3:30 PM ALL Lecture: Alternatives to Incarceration
Student Center Cinema
Florence Hammelev, ALL member and a participant in Congregations United to Serve Humanity, and Tamara Hayward of the Racine Interfaith Coalition, present the program "There Is a Better Way: The Case for Alternatives to Incarceration." The program will discuss the injustice and waste in our current corrections system. The presentation is based on the statewide “11X15 Campaign” which is aimed at reducing Wisconsin's incarceration numbers for low risk offenders from 22,000 to 11,000 by 2015.
7:00 PM 9:00 PM Mini Course: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Law of Attraction
Tallent 182
Begins May 6th. The movies “The Secret” and “What the Bleep Do We Know” introduced the concepts of the Law of Attraction to many people.  They are appealing, they are mystic, and they are hip.  But how do they actually work?  How can you have, be or do anything you desire?  This course will overview and define terms and explain inter-relationships described (mostly) in the Abraham-Hicks model of the Law of Attraction and address major questions about applying it to everyday life and explore a few tools to use in making desired changes in your life. Instructor: Laurie Swanson
7:00 PM 9:00 PM Mini Course: Intermediate Italian for Travelers Mini Course
Tallent 201
This course is a follow-up to the Beginners Italian for Travelers.  Intermediate Italian for Travelers will expand on the quick phrases so you can communicate in Italian effectively. This course will continue to provide an introduction to the Italian culture for first time travelers to Italy. It will also provide students with necessary language skills and the information and resources to make your first Italian travel experience enjoyable! Instructor: Ralph Annina Limit: 25
