Why did you join Gamma Alpha Omega?

I researched organizations both at UW-Parkisde and organizations that weren't at UW-Parkside for a year and a half. After carefully looking at all my options, I found that Gamma Alpha Omega was the best fit for me. The main thing that caught my eye was the fact that not only did GAO claim to be a Community Service based organization they actually did service and LOTS of it. Another thing that impressed me about that organization is the fact that they have accomplished so much and are a well recognized and highly regarded orgniaztion on campus. The respect that they receieved from not only other organizations, but faculty and staff alike really impressed with me. Who wouldn't want to be part of such an upstanding orgnization. The last thing that drew me to the organization was the sisters themselves. The girls made me feel so comfortable. They didn't hound me or pressure me into joining, they let me do things on my own time and I appreciated that. I was able to be myself around them, and they excepted me as is, good and the bad.

What has Gamma Alpha Omega done for you?

First and foremost Gamma has given me some of the most amazing sisters in the whole world. They are ladies that I have a privalege of knowing not just professionally, but also on a friendship level. They are womyn that have been my support system in my hardest times, my voice of reason when I couldn't see my own direction, and my role models and mentors. They are truely a blessing to me.

Besides the fact of having GREAT sisters, Gamma has allowed me to redifine and refine my own leadership skills. Gamma has helped me continue my passion of giving back to the community and provided many opportunities to strengthen my personal resumee. Gamma has allowed me to see my weakness, and strengths and how I can use them to help me attain my goals. Gamma has helped me discover qualities in myself that I didn't even know I had. Gamma has helped mold and shape me into the person that I am today. It has proved to be a great addition to my college experience and most definately to my life experience wherever my future will lead.

Goals: To attend a Master's of Public Health program in health and community development and work to establish non-profit clinics and health care for the underrepresented populations of the United States, (i.e. Homeless, minorities, working poor). Possibly Med school after that

Interests: Preventative health care, activism, womyn's rights, GLBT issues, Travel.

Fondest GAO Memory?

The mother daughter potluck would have to be my fondest memory. Seeing all the sisters with their mothers/womyn family members and all the Gamma P.A.L.S. with their mother was truely amazing. It was great to see each person speak individually of how Gamma has impacted their lives personally and what the organization means to them, members and non-members alike. It was overwhelming to actually see that impact that we make on these girls lives.

Personal Quote:

" Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing."
