Sisterhood

“We strive not only to be an asset to our community
but to strengthen the ties already present
within our sisterhood as well.”

Our purpose is to promote and instill in every member of Gamma Alpha Omega the values of Honesty, Integrity, Leadership, Scholarship, and Unity. These pillars have become the foundation of our organization and a symbol of devotion to our mission, purpose, and each other. By encouraging these admirable characteristics, each member enriches her life with these life-long attributes. These pillars empower us to be successfully active members of this strong, unified sisterhood.

"Contrary to what most of us have been taught, real sisters don't necessarily share the same mother and father...Although they might. It is really a matter, not of common relatives, but of a common heart."

Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. Everlastin' Epsilon Chapter at the University of Wisconsin Parkside is a Latina Based Community Service Sorority that has a diverse membership of women that share common beliefs, goals, and that know the importance of higher education. Without sisterhood there would be no Gamma Alpha Omega. Sisterhood is what holds GAO together, sisterhood is the bond that we all share as hermanas, students, alumnas, mothers, daughters, professionals, and friends. Sisterhood is what reaffirms the undergrad commitment to our organization and assures the active participation of our alumni upon graduation.

GAO provides support, resources, sisters, and most importantly unconditional love for all its members! For women that live on campus, our sisterhood serves as a support system, a family or home away from home. Such opportunities are often times missing on a college campus, we are pleased to be able to share such experience with all interested women.

Hermana Rosie Marquez from our Delta Chapter~"Finally, I had found an organization that was ideal for what I was looking for as a support system while in school: friendship, fun times and many good memories, the sisterhood, and lots of unconditional love. But more importantly, they offered academic and professional support for myself as a Chicana/Latina pursuing a higher education. Also, it allowed me to get more involved with my community and do things to help others within the community; and that is a great feeling! Through Gamma-I learned more about other Chicanas/Latinas like me and about my culture. I have found an even greater strength and confidence within myself through Gamma. GAO has always brought out the best in me and I am thankful for all that Gamma is and what it represents. It's the sisters that make up Gamma that have really had an amazing impact on my life. We all share a lot of the same beliefs and morals and are all pursuing a common goal and we are all bonded in such a sacred and dear way. I am proud to represent GAO through our pillars of Honesty, Integrity, Leadership, Scholarship, and especially, Unity. I will always be honored to be a sister of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. I love my sisters! Gamma is in my heart-por vida!"

Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. encourages interested women to research all options on and off campus reminding them that GAO is a lifetime commitment. Our chapter does not believe in aggressively recruiting interested women, our dedication, hard work put forth to our communities and very active campus involvement offers such opportunity. We take pride in being able to demonstrate our Tigress Style and honor our organization by actively serving our community. The commitment and dedication of each of our members has earned them a special place in our sisterhood. Hermanas of Gamma Alpha Omega wear their letters with a strong sense of pride and sisterhood that anyone is able to see and experience when a Lovely Lady of Gamma Alpha Omega is present.

Social

We know that socializing is an important part of the college experience. We encourage our members to participate in both internal and external socials on their campus, while reminding them that academics is their first priority. We encourage our members to experience "college life" through involvement on campus, joining student organizations or clubs, meeting and networking with new people, and taking pride in service and academics. Gamma members remember that they represent not only themselves, but Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. at all times.

Although we are not a Social Sorority, we realize that a healthy social experience is an asset to our college careers. For this reason, we plan and participate in a number of social events throughout the school year, internally and externally.

Internal Events
Internal events allow our members to spend quality time with one another without conducting GAO business. These events enable us as sisters to strengthen our bonds and friendships. The Everlastin’ Epsilon Chapter has semester retreats, cookouts, birthday dinners, Mother/Daughter Potlucks, T.G.I.F.s (Thank GAMMA It’s Friday) every first Friday of the month and many other events. Our chapter also travels to other GAO chapters throughout the Midwest to attend semi-annual regional conventions and also to our GAO National Convention annually every June. Regional and National Conventions give us a chance to catch up with old sisters and also meet new sisters. Conventions are great networking experiences, give us great sisterhood time, and also re-energize us for the upcoming school year.

External Events
External events allow our sisters to celebrate our sisterhood with other organizations that support GAO and give also give others a chance to have a glimpse our Tigress Style. Events include supporting other organizations on and off of campus whenever we have time, hosting semesterly parties, socials & mixers with other orgs., workshops & seminars to better ourselves and others, and events such as the Greek Olympics and the Greek Unity Luncheon that bring many different Greek Organizations together. This also includes taking roadtrips to other campuses in the area for conferences, parties and other events. GAO Midwest Region also travels to Chicago once a year to compete in the LatinosStep Midwest SILK Stroll Competition giving us a chance to meet and network with Greeks from all over the Midwest.
