V. Report prepared by President Tyson Fettes
Obviously, I was elected in the Spring Election. One of my goals for PSGA is to make this more like a professional organization. A lot of people don’t see that in us and I would like to change that. I look forward to working with the Speaker and this Body here. There’s a lot of things that we can do better. I had a meeting with the President’s Council a couple weeks ago and one of their biggest concerns was that Senators vote on the budget and they really don’t even know what they’re voting on, they don’t go and meet organizations. I look forward to working with the Speaker and getting a resolution passed and making our Senate act more responsible in that matter. I think there’s a lot of things that we can do better. That starts from the top and it will work its way down. Senators a lot of times didn’t have anything to do for the reason of lack of direction by their Executive Board. We’re working to change that this year. The Executive Board has a lot of goals and plans and they look forward to working with the Senate on their committees. And that’s the reason why we need to get the Senator Pro-Temp elected so soon so we can start assigning those. Last year, we wasted about a month doing this and it really hurt us. I’m really looking forward to this year, we have a lot of stuff to do. Each Director is going to talk about their things. The biggest thing with this Vote 2006, we need all of you to help us out, market this. We have a lot of great candidates coming in. We have about 5 or 6 elected officials or officials seeking office coming in. That, I think, will be great for all of the students. It’s a bipartisan group of them. We’re trying to go about this in the most bipartisan way possible. I think that’s fair to the students. Just a couple things, does anyone else have any questions of me? (Are there any Director vacancies?) No, not right now, possibly at Spring Semester, an Elections Director; Zara will be leaving after the first semester, so possibly a Legislative Director. Those will be posted. Any other questions? I’ll be speaking more with the Pro Temp later about what to do here. Ideas? (Last year, the Environmental Director thing did not get off the ground, maybe this year?) If someone expressed interest, and would like to run with that I would be more than glad to work with them. Feel free to ask me anything, anytime.
VI. Report prepared by Vice President Tony DuBose
Hello Everyone, I’m Anthony DuBose, Vice President. Basically, the first thing I want to talk about is we have our first United Council Meeting coming up at UW-Manitowoc September 29-October 1. We’re looking to take about 12 Senators with us. If you’re not familiar with United Council, it’s basically Student Government on a bigger scale. They have the same make-up, just about. They have all of the same Director positions. And basically it’s just helping us to get involved on a state with all of the other UW schools that are involved. So if you want to come, the sign-up sheet is in the PSGA office. As far as my duties as Vice President, one of my main jobs is to give the weekly financial report. I’m also trying to get this Newsletter jumped off the ground. I hopefully want to get it out sometime in October or early November. I’m working with Josh on that. If you guys have any ideas of what you would want to add to the Newsletter, please let me know. I just want to make sure that organizations are working together as well. It came to my attention earlier that some organizations are trying to collaborate on big projects. It would really make the school look good if we could pull our organizations together on projects that they’re trying to do for the school. It would just make us look good as a whole and look like a really excellent team. That’s pretty much it. Do you guys have any questions or anything? Ok, Thank you.
