Text Box: Mark Denning: Friend of Sacred Circle Oneida Dancers: Retired Marquette warrior educates students through dance Mark Denning is Head Dancer and leader of the Oneida Dancers. Born in Neopit on the Menominee Reservation in northern Wisconsin, he has been a traditional dancer since the age of 17. Mr. Denning was selected as the First Warrior for Marquette University after the demeaning caricature of "Willie WampumÓ” was abolished. Instead of an object of mockery, the appearance of the First Warrior became an opportunity to educate fans and to teach respect for American Indian heritage. He is a regular guest speaker and respected elder in the Indian community. Sacred Circle welcomes him as often as possible and looks forward to his next visit.
