UW-Parkside Business students Joshua Frazier, Carlyse Mayfield, Nathan Whittaker and Jeremy Mishork took 1st place at the 2013 National Team Selling Competition held at the Kelley School of Business - Indiana University on October 10 and 11.
This national championship was a first at a National Competition despite many strong finishes by UW-Parkside teams over the past 4 years. The team coach and Co-Chair of the College of Business, Economics, and Computing, Peter Knight noted, "This national title not only brings a sense of pride to our school and the CBEC, but reflects the tireless work and drive to excel of these students."
The field was an elite one which makes this victory all the more impressive.
The remainder of the 21 competing schools included many major schools with large sales programs such as Baylor, Northern Illinois, Michigan State and Washington.
The competition attracts top teams of undergraduate sales students from America's leading universities who wish to pursue high-level, complex sales and to practice team selling simulations. Altria Group Distribution Company and 3M Corporation employees role-play as buyers and senior management, and also serve as judges.
Frazier, Mayfield, Mishork and Whittaker worked tirelessly through the night to craft a stunning and highly professional presentation on Friday, Oct. 11, in response to client needs expressed in a 15 minute sales call on Thursday, Oct 10.
All four students are in the process of completing the CBEC Sales Certificate; open to students of all disciplines interested in pursuing a career in sales.
