Welcome

Welcome to the Division of Social Sciences and Professional Studies at UW-Parkside, currently housed in the College of Arts and Humanities. The Division is home to Criminal Justice, Geography, History, Political Science and Law, Philosophy, Sociology/Anthropology, the Center for International Studies, and the Professional Educator Development Institute. These programs offer opportunities for students to engage with issues of diversity, social justice, equality, sustainability, and globalization. The skills that are acquired in these disciplines help students apply their knowledge towards making their communities, whether local, national, or global, more productive and fulfilling for the group and the individual.

The Departments in the Division offer a myriad of opportunities for students to engage with the community, including internships, local and international service learning, and collaborative research with faculty. Our commitment to interdisciplinarity allows us to see the human and social condition from a variety of perspectives, and prepares our graduates to be flexible and adaptive to the changing world of the 21st century.

“If man is to survive, he will have learned to take a delight in the essential differences between men and between cultures. He will learn that differences in ideas and attitudes are a delight, part of life's exciting variety, not something to fear.” — Gene Roddenberry
