Drawing

Michelangelo said: 'Drawing constitutes the fountainhead and substance of painting, sculpture and architecture and is the root of all science, let they who have attained the possession of this be assured that they possess a great treasure.' The Drawing Concentration focuses on the drawn mark as a vehicle unto itself as a means to define the students' conceptualization. Drawing is the shorthand of the artist as well as being manifested into highly refined renderings. This Concentration is dedicated to a full range of drawing experience through diverse vehicles. Drawing is a cornerstone of the artistic tradition. Used for preparatory sketches as well as for its own artistic merits, drawing captures a range of artistic impulses. Its range of possibilities is also enormous, for through drawing the artist can create fluid gestures, meticulous lines, figural studies, systems of perspective, and abstraction. The Drawing Concentration is dedicated to this full array of artistic experiences.
