UW-Parkside to Host April 28 Community and Alumni Celebration of the new RITA

As a part of the UW-Parkside Year of the Arts and Humanities and the continuing celebration of the new Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities, the "RITA" will spring to life with a Community and Alumni Celebration on Saturday, April 28 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

This Community and Alumni Celebration will offer arts and humanities organizations and individuals from the region the opportunity to explore and be showcased in the spectacular new cultural facility, according to Dean Yohnk, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

"This community and alumni celebration in the RITA will bring the region together for an afternoon of family-oriented cultural experiences and hands-on creative activities," explains Yohnk.

"We have already had more than a dozen local and regional arts and humanities groups propose interactive creative events, performances, displays, and demonstrations for this exciting event and this afternoon celebration is sure to provide a diverse array of cultural enrichment activities for adults and children of all ages."

Umbrella informationThe event will also feature a "Shower Us with Creativity" community art display showcasing umbrellas which are designed and decorated by community members and alumni. White umbrellas will be made available to interested individuals and groups prior to the event and their resulting umbrella creations will be displayed throughout the RITA during the event and month of May. For more details about the umbrella project please stop by or contact the RITA box office and concierge desk at 262.595.2564.

This celebration will also provide UW-Parkside alumni the opportunity to "come home" to explore the new facility, connect with friends and campus family members, and participate in a variety of presentations, panel discussions, and creative activities. Many departments in the Arts and Humanities will be planning additional special programming with alumni. Interested alumni should contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 262.595.2233 for more details.
