About the College

The College of Arts and Sciences was formed in 1996. Prior to that the units in the College were housed in the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Science and Technology, and the School of Education. The College consists of twenty-one departments representing the fine arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and sciences, teacher education, health/physical education/athletics, and nursing (a consortial program administered by UW-Milwaukee), along with six interdisciplinary programs (ethnic studies, humanities, women's studies, honors program, interdisciplinary studies, and international studies). The College is also responsible for a campus art gallery and a performing arts theater.

Instruction in the College is performed by approximately 150 full-time faculty and academic staff, along with a large number of part-time instructors whose professional expertise broadens and enriches the College's academic offerings.

In addition to the usual array of arts and sciences majors and minors, the College offers a number of certificates. These certificates typically require 12-15 credit hours and are intended to bridge the gap that sometimes obtains between the academic major and the work world. We offer certificates in: Animation, Art History, Arts Management, Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Professional Writing, Film Studies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Coaching, Fitness, Sport Management, Leadership, Global Skills, Spanish for Professionals, Piano Pedagogy and Literature, Gerontology, and Museum Studies.
