Areas of Expertise:
Dr. Manion has done extensive research into the development of new financial services and the measurement of their success. His academic research is complemented by twenty years of experience on LaSalle Street in Chicago as a corporate banker and treasury consultant. He is a Certified Treasury Professional. Prior to earning his doctoral degree, he was in management positions with JPMorganChase, Bank of America, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Teaching:
Professor Manion teaches Marketing and Strategy courses at the MBA and undergraduate levels. He conducts the Marketing core course for MBA's and the Marketing capstone for undergrads. He has taught the Advanced Strategic Management course for MBA's and the Business Policy course for undergrads, both business capstone courses. Professor Manion teaches MBA and undergraduate electives in Product Management, Integrated Marketing Communications, Business and Services Marketing. He integrates real life case studies and business simulation with conventional methods in his courses.
Research:
Dr. Manion's research addresses the effect of business strategy on the development of financial services, the types of products introduced, and the measurement of their success. He has also performed research into the recognition of new business opportunities by high tech entrepreneurs. He has written a book on service development, published in academic journals, presented at research forums, and spoken to groups of business professionals. His professional work includes the earliest research into the commercialization of corporate electronic payment systems.
Service:
Professor Manion serves on the Board of the Family Service of Racine, a not-for-profit Agency that provides psychological and financial counseling to residents of Racine and Kenosha Counties, regardless of ability to pay. He has directed numerous student-based projects for NFPs and businesses in the community. He has participated in searches for University Foundation fund-raisers and the School of Business and Technology Dean. He is a member of the Scholarship Committee of the Treasury Management Association of Chicago and recently received a scholarship grant for student internships at the University.
Personal:
Dr. Manion resides in Racine and has two adult daughters who live in Chicago, IL and Jackson, WY. His previous life experience includes twenty years on LaSalle Street and five years service on a Nuclear Fleet Ballistic Missile Submarine in the Barents Sea.
