Area of Expertise: Mr. Determan has worked for the Department of Revenue for the states of Wisconsin and Indiana. As an auditor, he has worked in auditing of large multi-state corporations with varying apportionment applications. He has also worked as a State Tax Manager for Coopers & Lybrand in Chicago, IL, where he provided consulting and compliance for large organizations in relation to state tax applications. Presently, he operates an accounting and consulting firm which provides services to clients in the Racine, Kenosha and Milwaukee areas. Mr. Determan currently teaches courses in Managerial Accounting at undergraduate and MBA levels, financial accounting, personal financial planning, and advanced cost. In the past, he has also taught individual and corporate tax.
At Cardinal Stritch University, his Capstone Research Project focused on the accounting profession and ethics. This project analyzed some of the reasons employees and organizations become entangled in ethics violations.
Professional Activities: Mr. Determan’s has been active in the Racine-Kenosha CPA Discussion Group and the Racine-Kenosha Accountants Discussion Group not only as a participating member, but also as its Chairman, Board Member, and representative on the Legislative Committee. He is also a member of Wisconsin Institute of Certified Pubic Accountants and has served as Director for the Southeast Chapter. In the past, he has conducted seminars in ethics and malpractice, small business tax and accounting for non-accountants. As a volunteer for the Racine Area United Way he had served as a Financial Advisor participating on the Audit Review Subcommittee; Equipment Subcommittee; Budget and Agency Relations Committee, and Agency Panels.
