UW-P B&T Advisory Board meets, welcomes new member

UW-Parkside Business & Technology Advisory Board meets at CATI
Their titles read like a Who's Who from the region's boardrooms--a
vice president for commercial banking, the vice president of operations for a major manufacturer, a partner in a prestigious law firm, the director of systems development for a global insurance company, the president of a business development organization to the south and the executive director of a business development organization to the north, the president and his publisher counterpart at major local media outlets--and the list goes. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Business and Technology Advisory Board is "good company" to keep if you're doing business here. (A complete list of advisory board members is available at www.uwp.edu/departments/business/MBA/advisoryboard.cfm on the UW-Parkside web site.)
Many of the board's members were on hand Monday, Oct. 23, for a meeting at the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation (CATI). For some, it was their first chance to meet the new dean of the School of Business and Technology (SBT) Fred Ebeid who took office in July. For everyone, it was an opportunity to help connect UW-Parkside to the business community.

"The Advisory Board serves as a liaison," Dean Ebeid said, "to help the School form partnerships and improve communication. The members provide advice on ways we can anticipate and respond to the changing needs of business, technology, and society."

Specific topics covered included enrollment within the School of Business and Technology, initiatives being pursued during the current academic year, and marketing and promotion of the SBT. Working in committees, board members offered ideas on building enrollment, new computer technology programs, and fundraising.
Dean Ebeid said board members, many of whom are UW-Parkside graduates, expressed a strong sense of ownership on the issues facing the university.

"They expressed a continued commitment to us. They want to enhance the relationship between the business community and the university through involvement and support of our programs," the Dean said.

During the meeting, Advisory Board members unanimously approved the nomination of a new member, Earle Pfefferkorn, to a three-year term. Pfefferkorn, a 1984 MBA graduate of UW-Parkside, is president of Cleaver-Brooks Package Boiler Systems.
