Respected Business Prof. Sounderpandian passes
UW-Parkside Professor Sounderpandian passes away
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside
lost an exceptional educator and a good friend with the death of Business
Professor Jayavel Sounderpandian. Professor Sounderpandian passed away Monday,
April 9, at the age of 58. A pair of scholarships has been established in his memory.
Professor
Sounderpandian joined the UW-Parkside faculty in 1983 following the completion
of his Doctor of Business Administration degree at Kent
State University
in Ohio. He
earned his MBA from Kent State after receiving a degree in mechanical engineering
from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, India.
At
UW-Parkside, Professor Sounderpandian taught quantitative methods in the School of Business and Technology. During his 24 years
at the Kenosha
campus, he specialized in operations management, statistics, and decision
analysis. His research focused on supply chain management, individual and group
decision making, medical decision making, and risk analysis. He served as
Interim Dean of the School
of Business and
Technology during the 2005-2006 academic year.
Professor
Sounderpandian authored two books, including a widely
used statistics textbook, and contributed numerous articles to national and
international journals. He received the university's Excellence in
Research and Creative Activity Award in 2000.
He
was a member of the Educational Society for Resource Management, the Institute
for Operations Research and Management Science, the American Statistical
Association, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Decision Sciences
Institute. He served as a consultant for businesses in the manufacturing
sector.
Visitation
for Professor Sounderpandian takes place Thursday, April 12, from 3 to 6 p.m.
at Purath-Strand Funeral Home located at 3915 Douglas Avenue in Racine. Services begin at 6 p.m.
Two scholarships have been established in Professor Sounderpandian's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks people to support: The UW-Parkside Benevolent Foundation, 900 Wood Rd., Kenosha, WI 53141-2000 (make checks payable to the UW-Parkside Benevolent Foundation with a notation on the check indicating "In memory of Jay Sounderpandian"), or The Sounderpandian Poor Student Education Trust, c/o Dean Fred Ebeid, School of Business and Technology, 900 Wood Rd., Kenosha, WI 53141-2000 (funds will benefit Indian students).
