4 honored at Connections; seeking spring projects
The campus paused briefly on Thursday, Oct. 30, to recognize the outstanding work of UW-Parkside faculty and academic staff in community-based learning during Campus-Community Connections. Meeting in the Galbraith Room of Wyllie Hall, Theresa Castor and Pat Boelter of Communication, Sociology's Mary Kay Schleiter, and John Ward of Geography were honored for their projects that bridged the gap between classroom learning and community service. Along with Chancellor Lane Earns, UW-Parkside graduate and Kenosha Mayor Keith Bosman and Mayor Gary Becker of Racine spoke about the benefit their cities experience through community-based teaching and learning.
If you're considering working with students and a community agency on a spring '09 project, the Center for Community Partnerships (CCP) wants to hear from you. The CCP is compiling a list of courses to be offer with a community-based learning component next semester. If you need help locating a community resource to enhance your course through experiential learning, contact Helen Rosenberg (extension 2146 or helen.rosenberg@uwp.edu by email) or Cathy Folker (ext. 2407, cathleen.folker@uwp.edu). If you already have a partnership in place, please let them know.
