Jan. 31 free workshop offers Job Search Essentials

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside, in conjunction with several private and public organizations, hosts a free Job Search Essentials Workshop Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Student Center Ballroom of the campus located at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha. Sponsored by the university's School of Business & Technology, the UW-Parkside Center For Community Partnerships, and the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce and in partnership with Kenosha County's Division of Workforce Development and Veterans Service Office, this comprehensive workshop helps participants sharpen their resumes, hone their job seeking skills, and market themselves to potential employers.

"In this tight employment market, people who want to find a new job or change careers need to give themselves every advantage they can get," said UW-Parkside School of Business & Technology Dean Fred Ebeid. "This workshop will give people basic job hunting information—finding job leads, networking, resume preparation, interviewing techniques—that put them in the best position to be hired."

Following registration and continental breakfast from 8:30 to 9 a.m., Sue Norton, a UW-Parkside Business Professor specializing in Human Resources, shows participants how to find employment leads and take advantage of advertised openings, as well as networking and 'cold-calling,' and which are the hottest career fields during a segment titled "Tapping the Hidden Job Market." At 10 a.m., learn what employers look for from job applicants during "Resume Do's & Don'ts," and find out the common questions employers ask during "Interview Do's & Don'ts" starting at 11 a.m. If time permits, participants can have their resumes checked by an expert starting at noon.

Additional sponsorship of this workshop and assistance is provided by the UW-Parkside Advising and Career Center.

Registrations for the Job Search Essentials Workshop are accepted through Monday, Jan. 26. To register, call the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce at 262-654-1234, extension 112 or access info@kenoshaareachamber.com by email.
