Showcases highlight student/faculty research
The scholarship, creative activity, and research of students and faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside is highlighted during a weeklong celebration beginning Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Part of the university's series of 40th anniversary events, the Faculty and Student Research, Creative Activity, and Engagement Showcase features music and theatre performances, fascinating lectures, art exhibitions, and research displays. All events take place in the newly expanded UW-Parkside Student Center at 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha.
The week opens with the UW-Parkside Student Showcase Tuesday, April 28 beginning at noon. Events include a performance by the UW-Parkside Choir and presentations on student research projects. A series of posters on student research findings and an art exhibition are part of the afternoon program. All events are free and open to the public.
Faculty research and scholarship take center stage Wednesday through Friday with different university departments and faculty spotlighted each day. Wednesday, the university's sciences, arts and culture are showcased highlighted by Dr. Megan Mullen's research presentation "How cable television came to Racine and then Kenosha," the performance of a scene from Parkside Theatre's production of "The Music Man," and a stage combat demonstration by Theatre Arts.
Thursday, the School of Business and Technology is showcased with the viewing of posters on business and computer science projects from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in and around the Student Center Ballroom.
Friday is the faculty's day to shine as their research and creative activity are honored. The day starts with faculty/student presentations on work done in the Information Technology Practice Center. At noon, Dr. Simone Seym answers the question "What does YouTube do for you?" And at 2 p.m., past recipients of UW-Parkside's research and creative activity award display and discuss their most recent work. That is followed by a reception in the Student Center Ballroom.
