GBSAA Meeting Minutes from 10-15-08

I. Call to Order

Meeting was called to order at Wednesday, October 15th at 6:05 PM in the UW-Parkside SEG Center by Danielle Waterworth. There were 14 members, 1 advisor (Dr. Michael T. Manion), and 1 guest (Dean Fred Ebeid) present.

 

II. Greeting from Dean

Dean Ebeid gave some welcoming comments to the group on behalf of the College of Business, Economics, and Computing.

 

III. Old Business

  1. Introduction of GBSAA & Delivery Items-

Danielle Waterworth provided comments on the Graduate Business Students and Alumni Association and the progress made so far. The three deliverables for the organization were introduced as: Recruiting (attracting MBA's to the program), Representation (providing MBA's with a voice and networking options), and Raising (developing a fundraising tool for the program). 

  1. Mission &Vision –

a. Danielle Waterworth detailed the specific mission of the GBSAA to be: The GBSAA seeks to provide a voice for current students, networking opportunities for alums, assist in recruitment, and serve as a fundraising tool for the MBA program.

b. Tracy Sunday provided information on the vision of the GBSAA: seek active individuals that will assist in establishing the association and promote future initiatives critical for maintaining the MBA program, promote role as an academic partner to the campus and community, provide an active and accessible network of individuals, and select officer team to monitor progress toward goals with routine meetings and email communication

  1. Goals  -

Tracy Sunday introduced the goals of the GBSAA as: Increase Enrollment in MBA ProgramProvide Networking & Communication OutletsRaise University Awareness, & Raise Money for University MBA Program & GBSAA

  1. Timeline

Tracy Sunday explained the project timeline of establishing the GBSAA from creating the project and establishing a charter to the upcoming presentation to the CBEC Board and networking event.

  1. Alumni Association Group Status

Tracy Sunday explained that the GBSAA became a recognized alumni association group on September 16th, 2008. This gives us options beyond being just a recognized student organization.

 

IV. New Business

  1. Wine Tasting Networking Event/Silent Auction Fundraiser Night

a. Networking- Tracy Sunday commented on the upcoming networking event to be held on Saturday, November 15th from 6-8 PM in the Galbraith Room (3rd Floor Wyllie Hall) on Campus. Mason Creek Winery will be providing tasting. Appetizers will be provided by the Alumni Association and the College of Business, Economics, and Computing. Entry fees are $10 per person. Spouses are invited. RSVP’s are required.

 

b. Fundraiser-Tracy Sunday commented on volunteer help being needed to ask collect silent auction donations. If your company has the ability to donate please contact Tracy Sunday or Danielle Waterworth to help. We are looking for silent auction items valued at $25 to $50 from local businesses.

Motion to close nominations-Nicole LaDuke. Second- Chris Sorenson. Motion Passed. Mark Totts elected President.

    1. Nominations for Vice-President- Chris Sorenson. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Nicole LaDuke. Second- JP Surdo. Motion Passed. Chris Sorenson elected Vice-President.
    1. Nominations for Membership & Communications Director- Danielle Waterworth. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Nicole LaDuke. Second- Chris Sorenson. Motion Passed. Danielle Waterworth elected Membership & Communications Director
    1. Nominations for Financial Advisor- Nicole LaDuke. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Danielle Waterworth. Second-Chris Sorenson. Motion Passed. Nicole LaDuke elected Financial Advisor.
    1. Nominations for Networking Executive Officer- Tracy Sunday. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Nicole LaDuke. Second- Daniele Maggiolini. Motion Passed. Tracy Sunday elected Networking Executive Officer.
    1. Nominations for Fundraising Executive Officer- John Paul Surdo. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Nicole LaDuke. Second- Harrison Idowu. Motion Passed. John Paul Surdo elected Fundraising Executive Officer
    1. Nominations for Student Relations/Recruiting Executive Officer- Harrison Idowu. Motion to close nominations and white ballot- Danielle Waterworth. Second- Nicole LaDuke. Motion Passed. Harrison Idowu named Student Relations/Recruiting Executive Officer
    1. Nominations for Webmaster- James Ruffalo. Motion to close nominations and white ballot-Danielle Waterworth. Second- John Paul Surdo. Motion Passed. James Ruffalo named Webmaster.
    2. Other discussion of committee members- Those interested in being on any of the 3 committees or serving as company MBA representatives were encouraged to discuss the matter with the new executive officers after the meeting or email Tracy Sunday or Danielle Waterworth.
