Windows Live @ uwp.edu

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be required to use Windows Live?

Yes - this is your official UW-Parkside email account.  All official UW-P email will be sent to your Windows Live account - whether it is sent by your instructors or from one of the offices (Registrar, Financial Aid, etc).

Is my e-mail address the same?

Your official email address is remaining the same, so you do not need to give out a new address to your instructors, friends, or family members. Rangers.uwp.edu is the name assigned to the Windows Live @ uwp.edu interface. Messages sent to either address will reach you. For example, our mascot, Ranger D. Bear, can receive mail at both bear0007@uwp.edu and bear0007@rangers.uwp.edu — mail sent to both address will arrive in the same INBOX.

Will we be able to set up email forwarding with windows live?

It is not possible to forward messages from your new Windows Live @ uwp.edu email interface. Students have not been able to forward their UWP email message since January of 2006.  While we understand that for some students forwarding would be beneficial, historically there have just been too many  failed forwards to allow student forwarding.  The practice of not allowing email forwarding allows instructors and offices (Registrar, Financial Aid, etc) the confidence of sending to a legitimate email address.
Any remaining e-mail forwards on student accounts will no longer work.

Will I be able to keep my email after graduation?

Yes - the account will be available for your lifetime.  As students become alumni, you will have the option of retaining the account after graduation. After graduation, you will need to go directly to your Windows Live account at the following link:  http://mail.live.com
Will Staff and Faculty be moving to Windows Live?
Staff and Faculty will not be moving to Windows Live.  Only students will be using the Windows live e-mail system.

Who do I contact for help?

The UW-Parkside computer Help Desk (262-595-2444) is your first point of contact for email issues. There are issues that you will need to report directly to Microsoft. If you are having one of those, the help desk staff will provide directions on how to report the issue to Microsoft.

How do I access my Windows Live account?
Students will be able to access the Windows Live email system via the web just as they did RangerMail.  The Windows Live web based interface is accessible using a supported web-browser: Firefox, Internet Explorer 6 & 7 and Safari.

Will Windows Live save all of my sent messages?

By default Windows Live will not save your sent messages.  You will need to enable this feature through the options menu under the "Customize your mail."

I am a POP or IMAP user, can I use them with Windows Live @ uwp.edu?
No. Currently you must use the Windows Live @ uwp.edu web interface to check your email. Microsoft has promised additional functionality in the next few months — including POP access. When we have more information about the availability of POP, and how to use it, we'll update this question.

What is the Calendar feature?

The calendar is a personal calendar allowing you to enter appointments, class times, etc.
