Jonathan Shailor is Associate Professor of Communication in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. His approach to teaching and learning is highly interactive, with storytelling, dialogue, and performance among his preferred methods. Jonathan teaches classes in language and social interaction, conflict analysis and resolution, and strategies for constructive dialogue. He works closely with his students to address issues of social justice in our communities, and is the recipient of the Stella Gray Award for Teaching Excellence.
Professor Shailor's current research focuses on the transformative potential of arts and humanities education in prison settings. He is not only a scholar but also a practitioner, best known for directing The Shakespeare Prison Project at Racine Correctional Institution in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. He is also the editor of Performing New Lives: Prison Theatre (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2011), the author of Empowerment in Dispute Mediation: A Critical Analysis of Communication (Praeger, 1994), and many other scholarly publications.
