Ages & Stages: Mentoring Youth as They Grow
April 8, 2009
4:00 - 6:00 pm
UW-Parkside Tallent Hall
Professor Erik Erikson’s Theory of Human Development suggests that human personality develops in steps and that society tends to safeguard these steps. Building on Erikson’s Theory, John de Montmollin believes that youth development is a process that all youth “grow” through in reaching adulthood. The rate or magnitude of this growth is based on two variables: genetics and environment. As your mentor/mentee relationship evolves, it's important to keep in mind the many changes that young people have or will encounter. These changes are part of the natural development of young people and include physical changes, social changes, intellectual changes and emotional changes. With all these changes, it is important for mentors to recognize and support there mentee through these different stages of development. John de Montmollin will facilitate this fun and interactive training session.
John de Montmollin is an Assistant Professor of Youth Development and also serves as a Youth & Family Educator with Kenosha County UW-Extension. John works with both youth and adult audiences in the areas of leadership, team building, community service and personal development. He earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has completed post-graduate work in counseling from Winona State University. John is married and has two terrific sons.
