Leroy Petersen - April 2009
Thank you for the honor of being chosen "Mentor of the Month" forApril.It all began four years ago when my wife suggested that we visit San Juan Diego Middle School and look into their mentoring program since our congregationhad provided financial support for some of their programs.I was introduced to my mentee the following fall and our relationship continues. We met weekly for the next three years, working on homework if he needed that or just talking about life. This year he is a sophomore and an honor roll student at St. Catherine's High School. We meet occasionally for schoolwork help but more often just to spend time together. I have learned as much from him and his family as he has from me. (Probably more!)It has truly been a rich and rewarding experience which I hope will continue as he completes his high school experience and beyond.
