Mentor of the Month

Tom Meyer III - March 2009

Why do I mentor? I was on a committee about 15 years ago that came up with the idea of mentoring 15 "at-risk" summer-school students. I thought since I helped come up with the plan I should participate in the program. Instead of 15 volunteers we had 35 and at the end of summer-school everyone wanted to continue with the program and with their student. The rest, as they say, is history. Mentoring takes a small investment of time and the payback greatly exceeds the effort expended. Mentoring works because there in no better fix than one human committing to help another. The benefits last a long time, sometimes forever,  and flow both ways. Get involved, you'll be glad you did.
