UW-Parkside Student Environmental Stewards
The following three students were selected on a competitive basis to support the efforts by the Chancellor’s Task Force on Environmental Stewardship during the 2007-08 academic year. These three students were selected based on essays submitted that articulated their past commitment to environmental stewardship as well as future goals. These students play an important role in helping UWP "green" its campus.

Student Environmental Steward Roles and Responsibilities
The UW-Parkside Student Environmental Stewards will lead an organizational effort to involve UWP students in all aspects of creating a green, environmentally-friendly campus. The stewards will be expected to generate environmental interest and enthusiasm among their fellow students.
In addition the stewards:
- Interface with existing student groups and organizations to engage them in environmental thinking and change on campus.
- Lead an on-campus fundraising effort for the new Solar Power Panels
- Currently we have:
- A challenge donation that will match up to $10,000.
- A matching grant from WE Energies of $100,000.
- Collaborate with an AmeriCorps*VISTA member on an Environmental Education Campaign that includes the development of two new environmental centers (REC in Racine and CE 2DAR in Kenosha).
- Establish and maintain a regular schedule of meetings (e.g. every other week) with the lead advisor (Tom Schnaubelt) to ensure progress toward goals.
- Meet monthly with the co-advisors (Cathy Folker and John Skalbeck) and periodically with the Chancellor’s Task Force on Environmental Stewardship.
- Help create signage that displays UWP’s current environmental efforts.
UWP’s Student Environmental Stewards are provided opportunities to learn a variety of leadership and organizing skills. They also play an important role in shaping UWP’s environmental campaign, strengthening our efforts to become a “green campus.” Stewards receive up to $1000 in hourly compensation over the course of the 2007-2008 academic year.
