Certificate in Cyber Security
The Internet has changed how we all live and work and now spans the globe. Using the internet, a criminal or hacker can break into nearly anywhere in the world using their home computer – and companies must close all vulnerabilities in defense. Botnets and spam, viruses and Trojan horses, intrusion and identity theft, and distributed denial of service attacks have cause problems for individuals and companies alike. Companies must also adhere to recent security legislation, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, FISMA, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley, which protects customers and share holders to ensure privacy, integrity, and availability of computers and their data.
The Cyber Security certificate is for advanced computer information systems technology and programming personnel. A secure company must be adept at securing networks, servers, applications, and the business as a whole. The Network Security course focuses on securing networks from hacking. To fully safeguard a network, an analyst must be adept at computer network technology and protocols. The Web Security course teaches how to program and test secure web pages. Future course offerings will include an Information Systems Security course focusing on security legislation, the business of security, and development of security standards and software; and a Secure Software Development course teaching students to recognize and remove security flaws in their programs.
