The purpose of these workshops is to increase awareness and sensitivity about the differences we each bring. Each session will have a focus on how to create a more inclusive environment and build the skills necessary for working successfully with diverse co-workers, clients, and other constituents.
We offer and can tailor workshops and programs based on your unique needs. The following are examples of workshop offerings:
Participants will learn that cultural competency requires not only an awareness of cultural differences, but also cross-cultural communication skills. Discover conscious and unconscious ways in which "isms" permeate our attitudes and behaviors in the workplace and affect our relationships. Discuss what it means to support diversity and what it means for your organization to create an inclusive environment for staff and clients. Participants will be provided with resources and ideas to take back to their organizations.
How can we recruit and retain minority staff members? In this workshop, participants will explore proactive approaches that can help market to potential and keep current staff. We will discuss what it means to support diversity, identify ways to support diversity, and evaluate the inclusivity of our work environments.
Participants will learn that cultural competency requires not only an awareness of cultural differences, but also cross-cultural communication skills. This workshop will provide a forum for participants to discover the conscious and unconscious ways in which "isms" permeate our attitudes and behaviors in the work place and affect our relationships. This workshop is designed to increase awareness of differences, as well as begin and continue a dialogue about strategies to strengthen communication skills.
Racial microaggressions are "brief, commonplace verbal, behavioral or environmental indignities that communicate negative slights toward people of color" (Sue, et. al.). This communication may be enacted by well intentioned people who may be unaware they are sending these hidden messages. In this workshop, we will review some of the research on racial microaggressions and other types of unconscious bias. We will discuss how people have experienced them, their impact, and how they may affect our efforts to create inclusive environments.
Create an inclusive and safe work environment for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. The purpose of this workshop is to provide staff and volunteers working in community-based settings with positive information and practical tips on how to create a welcoming, safe environment for co-workers and clients.
