Applicants with disabilities apply to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside through the regular admission process. Students should summit their applications for admission to Admissions and New Student Services using the same forms and meeting the same deadlines as all other applicants http://www.uwp.edu/admissions/freshman.cfm Applicants are not required to disclose a disability in order to apply to UW-Parkside and any information regarding the student's disability will not considered when determining admission. The Office of Admissions and New Student Services will make a determination of admission or denial and will notify the student of the decision by letter, the same process used for other students.
If you are interested in a campus tour and visit with the Office of Disability Services staff, schedule a tour through the Admissions Office and request the presence of ODS staff. Accommodations you receive in college may be quite different from what you receive in high school. Please note that accommodations for students with disabilities in the postsecondary environment are not bound by your IEP. Your accommodations will be based upon the documentation of your disability and students will need to advocate for themselves more than in high school. The Office of Disability Services will assist you in this process.
Specific documentation guidelines are published at this link and below:
Learning Disability
ADD/ADHD
Psychiatric
Visual/Deaf/Other
Each student requesting academic accommodations through the Office of Disability Services must meet with the Coordinator prior to the provision of any services. The purpose of this meeting is to share information about the nature of the disability, the requested accommodations, and policies regarding documentation and provision of services.
The University requires that ODS have on file documentation of disability and eligibility for services before any services are provided. Typical documentation should be by a qualified individual in the field of your disability (physician, psychologist or psychiatrist, etc.). Specific documentation guidelines are published online at http://www.uww.edu/csd/common/docs/tran-disab-docum-guide.pdf
Eligibility for accommodations is determined on an individual basis for each student who applies for services and approval is determined by evaluating documentation of the diagnosed condition creating the barrier, the demonstrated need for the accommodation, and the student having made a request for the specific service. Having received a service prior to attending UW-Parkside does not guarantee that the serve will be available or approved at the University level.
