Recommended Publications and Recruitment Sources for the Position Authorization Request (PAR) Recruitment Plan
One of the most important elements of the search process is creating a broad and diverse pool of candidates. One often hears the remark that the pool of women or people of color in a specific field are meager or even nonexistent. While certain fields may not have large numbers of women and people of color, there is no field in which they are unrepresented.
Advertising only in the traditional publications will often result in a homogeneous applicant pool of traditional candidates. To enlarge the pool of candidates, a search and screen committee must consider advertising in a variety of other publications and contacting a variety of professional organizations. Advertising in appropriate publications and contacting relevant organizations will not only help to enlarge the pool of candidates but will also convey the commitment of the department and institution to recruit women and people of color.
