UW-Parkside Diversity Award

Diversity Award Criteria

Applications/Nominations will be evaluated using the following criteria:
(Plan 2008 Goals below)

* Enhancement: Does the individual/department enhance and/or contribute to Plan 2008? Develop/implement programs/events? Sponsor programs/events?

* Effectiveness: What were the specific results of the individual's/department's efforts? Improve campus climate? Leave a lasting impact? Affect/effect as many faculty, staff, and students as possible including racial/ethnic minorities?

* Uniqueness: Does the individual/department exhibit uniqueness in the support/advancement of Plan 2008 goals?

* Service: Is there evidence of service in implementing Plan 2008 goals? Community outreach?

* Commitment: Is the individual/department volunteering resources, people, and time? Does the individual/department demonstrate initiative/progress in increasing awareness/representation on campus of age, disability, gender, ethnicity/race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic class issues?

Eligibility:
Those who have not received the award in the past five years are eligible.

Plan 2008 Goals:
Goal 1 - Increase the number of Wisconsin high school graduates of color who apply, are accepted, and enroll at UW System institutions.

Goal 2 - Encourage partnerships that build the educational pipeline by reaching children and their parents at an earlier age.

Goal 3 - Close the gap in educational achievement by bringing retention and graduation rates for students of color in line with those of the student body as a whole.

Goal 4 - Increase the amount of financial aid available to needy students and reduce their reliance on loans.

Goal 5 - Increase the number of faculty, academic staff, classified staff and administrators of color so that they are represented in the UW System work force in proportion to their current availability in relevant job pools. In addition, work to increase their future availability as potential employees.

Goal 6 - Foster institutional environments and development of courses that enhance learning and a respect for racial and ethnic diversity.

Goal 7 - Improve accountability of the UW System and its institutions.
