Answer to Frequently Asked
Non-Resident Aid Questions
How am I considered for these awards?
Each newly admitted non-resident student is evaluated by
the Student Financial Aid Office.
Your admission as a degree- seeking student is your application
for consideration. If you have
been admitted with criteria other than ACT score, class
rank, and/or transfer information, a process exists to evaluate
these situations on a case-by-case basis.
When will I be evaluated for these awards?
The initial evaluation typically occurs within two weeks
of being accepted as a degree-seeking student. Students admitted September-December for the following academic year will be evaluated in January. The time frame for transfer student award decisions is based on
the availability of official transfer grades being posted in
our student system.
How much are these awards worth?
Award amounts vary up to the full out-of-state portion of tuition
charges. The total award will never
exceed the out-of-state portion of your tuition charges.
Are these awards renewable? Can I use my
award during interim sessions such as Winterim
or Summer?
Awards are renewable as long as you meet the renewal
requirements for the respective program. Using the award during interim sessions will not count against your total number of semesters used. Funding for interim sessions is not guaranteed.
Do I need to complete a FAFSA to get one of these?
We strongly encourage every student to complete a
FAFSA to ensure maximum consideration of all financial aid available. Some of the programs require a completed FAFSA.
My state has a reciprocity program with
Wisconsin. I receive tuition reimbursement from my employer. Can I get this, too?
Recipients of other non-resident or out-of-state
programs, such as Minnesota reciprocity or employer reimbursement programs, may not
be eligible for consideration of these award programs.
I have a previous bachelor/graduate degree. Am I eligible for this program?
This program is available only to non-residents
admitted as degree-seeking for first undergraduate or
graduate degree.
How will I know if I have been selected for an award?
Awardees will be sent a congratulations letter as well
as an email notification of the award selection. For
international students, this will be stated on the I-20
as "funds from the school" in addition to an email
notification.
Will the funds for Out-of-State aid awards ever
run out?
Funding is limited. Awards are
given on a first-come, first-served basis. Funding is based on an annual allocation by the University of
Wisconsin System. There may be occasions when budgetary constraints require award revisions.
