ROAR Course Registration Process

Welcome! You are about to begin the process of learning how your sub-scores on your ACT, Wisconsin Placement Test Exam or SAT can impact the courses you will take at UW-Parkside this fall. There are a few things you will need to keep in mind as you work through the planning worksheet:

Today you will need to open multiple tabs or windows in your browser on the computer.

  1. Guide for Student Success(GSS)
  2. First Semester Planning Worksheet
  3. Course Catalog
Step One Open a GSS BOOKLET window/tab
Open to the table of contents
Read the typical full time schedule found on page 15.
Notice that typically students take 4-5 classes at 3 credits to be full time.
Step Two Have a FIRST SEMESTER PLANNING WORKSHEET available
We will begin with Step 2: Minimum Competencies on the planning worksheet.
Open the COURSE CATALOG window/tab
Look up your major of interest
Step Three Determining your MATH COMPETENCY

Write your most recent ACT/WPT/or SAT sub-score in the Math Competency box on the worksheet

Refer to the UW-Parkside Cut Scores for Placement Chart to find your Math score.
Ex. Math ACT is 16 = ACSK A015 Elementary Algebra

Place the course number on your First Semester Planning Sheet

Step Four Determining your ENGLISH COMPETENCY

As previously, find your most recent ACT/WPT/ or SAT sub-score in the English Competency box on the worksheet
Refer to the UW-Parkside Cut Scores for Placement Chart to find your English score.

Place the course number on your First Semester Planning Worksheet

Step Five Determining your READING COMPETENCY

In similar fashion to step three and four, you will use your ACT/WPT/or SAT sub-score in Reading to correlate the Cut Scores for Placement Chart to find the course placement.

Place the course number on your First Semester Planning Worksheet

Step Six Return to GSS BOOKLET window/tab

Go to page 12 for Degree Requirements.

Circle Yes or No on the First Semester Planning worksheet if you will need to take a Foreign Language
