Guidelines and Procedures
for the
Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award

 

COMMITTEE

The Committee shall consist of the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Committee, two academic staff members selected by the Academic Staff Committee and the recipients of the award for the past two years.  The Chairperson of the Academic Staff Committee will call the first meeting.  Hereafter, the Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award Committee shall be referred to as the ASDSAC or the Committee.  The ASDSAC will elect a member to serve as Chairperson of this committee.  If a member of the ASDSAC becomes a candidate for this award, he/she shall resign from the committee and a replacement will be appointed by the Academic Staff Committee.

TIMETABLE

The Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award Committee shall invite nominations for the Distinguished Service Award beginning March 1 with receipt of nominations closing on March 15.  On March 7, the ASDSAC shall make a second announcement inviting nominations for the Distinguished Service Award.  Upon review and consideration of the nominating letters and supporting documents received, the Committee shall distribute a list of nominees by March 31 and solicit additional support materials from the campus community due April 21.  By May 15, the Committee shall forward their selection to the Chancellor.

ELIGIBILITY

The Award shall be limited to non-teaching members of the academic staff who are employed 50% time or more, and who have not received the award within the last ten years.  A list of eligible staff members shall be distributed together with the announcement letter.

CRITERIA

  1. Individual demonstrates service which benefits the University of Wisconsin–Parkside or the campus community and exceeds the required performance of his/her normal duties or job responsibilities.

  2. Distinguished service should be related to his/her professional training.

  3. Nominations could be for one significant activity or service or a pattern of exemplary service over years at UW-Parkside.

  4. Service could have been performed or accomplished on and/or off campus.

 

NOMINATION PROCEDURE

  1. Nominations may be made by any member of the campus community so the announcement letter and nomination forms will be sent to all Parkside faculty, staff and students by March 1.

  2. Nominees will be asked to return the Nominee Information Sheet and any supporting documentation by March 31.

  3. A list of nominees will be sent to the campus community for additional support materials by March 31 with materials due April 21.

  4. The ASDSA committee will make the selection and forward to Chancellor by May 15.

  5. The recipient will be honored at the Fall convocation.

 

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT 0F RECEIPT

The Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award Committee shall acknowledge receipt of letters and supporting documents and shall seek additional information as needed.

DECISION ON AWARD

When a decision has been made, the Committee shall submit the name and the rationale for the award to the Chancellor.

In the event of extreme and unusual circumstances, the Committee may elect not to submit a candidate for the award.  Should this occur, the Committee should document its reasons for withholding the award, and submit this documentation to the Chancellor.

DISPOSITION OF DOCUMENTS

Upon selection of a given year’s Award recipient, nominating letters and supporting documents received on behalf of nominee shall become part of the official records of the Academic Staff Committee.  The chair of the committee will submit letters for placement in the nominees’ and award recipients’ personnel files to indicate that they were nominated for and/or received the award.
