Procedures of the Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award Committee
Academic Staff Committee shall form the Academic Staff Distinguished Service Award Committee and the following are the instructions for the ASDSA Committee.
- Check with Human Resources for list on non-instructional academic staff at 50% or more time. Review list for errors (some people are on list for FYI purposes only). Update list for recipients from last ten years and mark with “*”
- Contact Secretary of the Faculty Office for assistance. The Secretary of the Faculty Office provides support by preparing and distributing information and receiving nomination materials.
- Update materials for new dates. Allow approximately two weeks for return of nominations to Secretary of Faculty Office.
- Work with Secretary of the Secretary of the Faculty Office to have copies duplicated and sent campus wide. Nomination forms are sent to all UW-Parkside faculty and staff and to the major student organizations.
- After nomination forms are collected:
a.Contact nominees to ask if they wish to be considered further by sending a copy of the Nominee Information Sheet and a letter asking for supporting material including resume or CV.
b. Draft letter indicating nominees and distribute campus wide for supporting letters. Deadline: additional two weeks.
- Convene committee to review nominations and supporting documents. The Nominee Information Sheet and the letters of support should provide information to the committee. Award decisions should be based on quality of service (versus quantity of support materials received).
- Select recipient based upon the stated criteria:
a.Individual demonstrates service which benefits the University of Wisconsin- Parkside or the campus community and exceeds the required performance of his/her normal duties or job responsibilities.
b.Distinguished service should be related to his/her professional training.
c.Nominations could be for one significant activity or service or a pattern of exemplary service over years at UW-Parkside.
d.Service could have been performed or accomplished on and/or off campus.
8. The recommendation of the committee should be forwarded to the Chancellor. Chancellor’s Office sends recipient letter announcing selection.
9. Draft and send letter of regret to non-awardees after letter to award recipient goes out.
