WYLL 273
Barbara Baruth attended to discuss the Committee's decision to move the Teaching Center to Wyllie 273. She disagrees with that decision and discussed her reasoning.
The Committee felt that since the Library would retain scheduling authority to the lounge, the campus would still be well served in the use of the Overlook Lounge, while Wyllie 273 would be better utilized than it currently is. Baruth said the library envisions the room becoming one or two group study rooms. With wireless network technology on the horizon, this space will be in high demand by students who need to work together around a computer. Baruth left the meeting.
The Committee agreed that this is an Academic Affairs issue - space involving Information Services and the Teaching Center. John Ostheimer will meet with both parties in early January to resolve this issue ASAP.
Bittner
Tom asked the Committee to either develop or assist in developing a procedure across campus to coordinate maintenance and renewal needs and academic or programmatic planning efforts for the capital budget process per the requests/directives by DOA/DFD and UWSA.
Facilities Management (FM) will be relying on two unique database management systems (FacMan and TMA) to guide the maintenance and renewal planning efforts. Certain project requests will be primarily maintenance and renewal driven, but should incorporate any necessary programmatic issues if possible. Other project requests will be primarily program driven, but should incorporate any pending maintenance and renewal issues.
Bittner said the best approach for everyone involved would require significant campus involvement. He handed out and discussed several summary reports which will be used to guide maintenance and renewal project initiatives. FM will verify whether or not the areas indicated in the reports require maintenance and repair. If so, FM will determine appropriate project sizes and scopes submitted.
Bittner said the State has never had this type of information available before so DFD and UW System are looking at this as a way to develop better comprehensive projects.
