Union Expansion Project is on hold given the state budget situation, uncertainty of the tuition increases, and funding levels. We are continuing the planning process but will delay requesting funds and authority to go ahead. Some improvements were delayed in past years pending the expansion but now may go ahead with some of those that can't be put off any longer (carpet replacement in meeting rooms, window blind replacement, etc.)
Charlotte Short explained the usage of the Learning Assistance computer classroom in GR D127 with GR D125 as office and room for the server. The room is scheduled fully in Fall and heavily in Spring term. The room is also used during summer session for Student Support Services' Bridge Program.
Wiring has been replaced through a cooperative effort of Learning Assistance and Computer Services. The department is willing to invest in the room, both wiring and computer replacement but wants reassurance from FPC that the rooms will continue to be available for their lab as the Greenquist remodeling project proceeds. Short pointed out that the future plan calls for the room, accompanying office, and adjacent classroom, GR D123, to be split into two general use classrooms. She noted that GR D127 was not often a requested classroom prior to 1999, and GR D123 is currently used primarily for storage by Theatre Arts, with only occasional classes in the room.
Short also informed the committee that MOLN 149 is very heavily scheduled in both Fall and Spring and Learning Assistance finds the space very satisfactory. FPC assured Short that she may proceed with upgrading GR D127 as it will continue to be available as lab space.
Richard Oldenburg is the newly hired Campus Planner. He will begin on December 9th. His first major task will be to work with Tom Bittner to complete the Campus Physical Development Plan. Oldenburg will be invited to future FPC Meetings.
Streeter sent the committee electronically the draft by Bittner of the Campus Physical Development Plan.
Kolbe discussed the plans for next summer's classroom renovation. Three classrooms (MOLN L211, L213, and L215) will be consolidated into two. Budget is $410,000 with part of that coming from Lab Mod Technology funds ($25,000 per classroom). The other project is renovation of Molinaro D139 into a large classroom with tables and chairs.
