A new faculty/staff lounge could be built in the library on level L2, incorporating L247. The current faculty/staff lounge is one “mod” plus a corridor housing a sink, counter, and microwave. Two mods (the mod now partially occupied by L247 and the mod immediately to the west) could be made available for the lounge and also the Teaching Center . L247 currently has a sink and counter, which could be incorporated into a small kitchen off the proposed lounge. A portion of the western mod could house the Teaching Center office. The area is adjacent to the library's main staircase and close to the small classroom and the Overlook Lounge. The synergy of an attractive, comfortable Teaching Center and faculty/staff lounge unit would draw our faculty and staff together, increase morale, and enhance the work of the Teaching Center.
This proposal includes converting L265/267 to two much needed group study rooms by replacing the front wallboard wall with a glass wall.
Streeter and Kolbe will meet with staff to clarify the options and present them at the next FPC Meting.
