Access Card System
Procedures:
By the end of the second
week of each term, departments will supply University Police with a roster of
students authorized to use their facilities after hours. The roster will include;
Name, Access Level, specifically approved area(s), and expiration date, if prior
to end of semester. (See Appendix B.) By the end of the third week of each term,
University Police will issue access cards to the departments for distribution
to their students. Departments may authorize additional students throughout
the term as the need arises. In such cases, the University Police will issue
access cards as soon as possible.
All students must possess
an access card and a valid picture ID in order to gain entry to or remain in
a building after hours. To gain access to a building after hours students must
contact University Police by phone or in person to request a key assist. Only
University Police officers may admit students to a building after hours. Students
working in a building after hours are not to let anyone else in the building.
Students violating this policy may have their after hours privileges revoked.
Safety/Security:
If areas will be used after
hours, the departments in charge of the areas must develop and post guidelines
for the after hour use of those areas. Guidelines must be posted in a conspicuous
location at or near the entrance to the area. For safety reasons, hazardous
activities undertaken after hours require the presence of at least two people.
Working with hazardous chemicals in a lab, welding, or using power tools are
examples of hazardous activities. Guidelines must contain the following information:
1) Faculty/Staff person(s) in charge of the area.
2) Faculty/Staff Emergency Contact Numbers (home telephone numbers.)
3) Specific rules for after hours use of the area.
4) Hazardous Activities that require the presence of at least two people.
5) Hazardous Activities that may not be performed after hours.
Additionally, departments
must ensure that students, faculty and staff adhere to the guidelines and are
properly trained and checked out on hazardous activities they will be participating
in.
Parking Considerations:
The University's parking
lots close at 2:00 a.m. Faculty, staff, and students who are parked in the lots
after 2:00 a.m. will be subject to being ticketed unless University Police Dispatch
is notified at x2455 prior to 2:00 a.m. There will be no exceptions to this
policy.

Step 2. Develop and post
guidelines for after hours use of each area where access after hours will be
allowed. Guidelines are to be posted at or near the entrance to the area. Include
