Network Access Restriction

Downloading or distributing copyrighted material, including through peer-to-peer file sharing, without the permission of the copyright owner is against the law. UW-Parkside Campus Technology Services wi ll assist users if their computers/devices are compromised through a virus, hacking, or if a user wants assistance removing peer-to-peer software.
90.02 Copyright Violations
When valid notifications of copyright violations are received from recognized groups, including but not limited to the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA), the registered user will be notified and access to the network will be restricted as outlined in the related procedure. In addition, the network user may be referred to the Dean of Students' Office for possible additional disciplinary action.
90.03 Network Abuse
If a device appears to be connecting to multiple other devices or exhibiting other properties that violate our network usage policy, its access to the UW-Parkside network will be restricted. When network access is restricted, the registered user of that network device will be notified that the device could potentially be compromised, and wil l be offered contact information to assist in cleaning/repairing the software on that device. Once the problem has been rectified, the device wi ll be allowed back on the network.

90.05 Policy Review
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will coordinate an annual review of the policy. Members of the campus community can forward to the CIO suggested changes for review by February 1. Recommendations for changes wi ll be provided by the CIO to the Chancellor's Cabinet for approval no later than March 1st.
