Academic Achievement Assessment Committee
Minutes from September 27, 2000

The AAAC (Academic Achievement Assessment Committee) met on Wednesday, Sept. 27th at 2 PM in MOLN 236. Present were Sue Norton (chair), Jane Pinnow, Mary Lenard, and Pat Goldsmith.

The chair reviewed the purpose of AAAC and briefly summarized the various levels of student assessment, including general education, majors, and system-mandated quantitative and verbal assessment.

The draft report for 1999-2000 was briefly discussed. The chair encouraged any members who have comments to submit them. The chair also reviewed the activities completed in 1999-2000. The committee then discussed the goals for 2000-2001. In particular, it was determined that further discussion of the logistics of using standardized testing for the UW system requirements should be tabled until the full committee could be present.

The chair discussed her scheduled meeting with the NCA consultant on Oct. 11. Copies of NCA's assessment expectations will be provided to all AAAC members.

It was determined that the next meeting will be scheduled after Oct. 11, to enable to chair to report on both General Education (whose steering committee has their first meeting on Oct. 2) and the NCA discussion.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:50.
