Annual Report 2006-07

Committee Members : Anne Gurnack, Interim Chair, Robert Canary,
Theresa Castor, Robert (Chi-Wing) Fok, Dana Oswald, Mary Kay Schleiter,
Denise Widup. Ex Officio members: Dean Donald Cress, William Blanchard.

For the academic year 2006-2007, activities focused on:

1. The preparation of an updated campus-wide assessment plan . Robert
Canary prepared a draft of the plan. The draft plan will be circulated
to appropriate committees, administrators, and department
chairs during Fall semester 2007.

2. Members of the AAAC attended meetings at national higher education
conferences to ascertain latest thinking about national assessment practices.

3. The committee reviewed core competencies and goals of numerous colleges
throughout the country. As a result of this analysis and evaluation, the
group decided to encourage integration of these types of graduation
competencies and General Education goals into academic department
assessment plans.

4. The committee met with the Director of General Education and the former
Director of Assessment to review past activities in those areas.

5. In summary, the group discussed the future of assessment activities on this campus.
Assessment is obviously destined to expand and the committee needs
resources to carry out its mission, especially related to a forthcoming NCA
visit in a few years. It is necessary to have the architecture in place
including the restoration of the Director of Assessment position , budget ,
and appropriate authority. In the committee’s opinion, assessment at UW
Parkside has become fragmented during the last several years and should be
integrated throughout as a campus-wide investment.
