The Awards and Ceremonies Committee met at 2PM on March 26, 2004 in D135 Molinaro Hall. Present were: Stuart Hansen, Trenton Baylor, Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes, Zhaohui (George) Li, Tsun-Mei (Alice) Chang, Fred Monardi, Esther Wilson, Steve McLaughlin, Cynthia Jensen (ex-officio).
A document containing the scholarship selections for 2004-05 was distributed by Jensen. These selections were made by a wide variety of campus committees. After brief discussion Saffioti-Hughes moved (seconded by McLaughlin) to approve of these selections and to give the campus Scholarship Officer authority to adjust the selections as needed if anyone turns down an award. The motion passed unanimously.
Hansen presented to the Outstanding Graduate subcommittee’s selections for Outstanding Graduate Awards. They are: Elaina Meier, Mona Sin, Teresa Esteves, Vik Sidhu, Julie Sharkey, Roman Pobaruyev, Lisa Smith and Jacob Tatay. The subcommittee also suggested that Jacob Tatay be recommended to the Chancellor for the Chancellor’s Award. McLaughlin moved (seconded by Saffioti-Hughes) to accept these selections. The motion passed unanimously.
The committee discussed the departmental nominations for Academic Achievement Awards. Several students did not meet the 3.5 GPA requirement. One nominee is not a currently registered student. The committee unanimously agreed to not give awards to these individuals.
One nominee has only earned 15 credit hours at UW-Parkside. After a brief discussion the committee agreed to give this student an award.
Saffioti-Hughes moved (seconded by Baylor) that starting next academic year students shall have earned 24 credit hours at UW-Parkside to be eligible for an Academic Achievement Award. The motion passed unanimously.
The discussion turned to the Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony to be held on Sunday, April 18, 2004. The organizing process is well underway. Committee members will be invited (and encouraged) to help out during the reception and ceremony.
The meeting adjourned at 2:50PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Stuart Hansen, chair
